Odaiba isn't really a 'day trip' - it's part of Tokyo - but it feels like an escape: a breezy bay island a short monorail ride from the centre. Treat it as a half-day that builds to sunset, when the Rainbow Bridge and skyline light up across the water.

    1

    Ride the Yurikamome out

The driverless monorail crosses the Rainbow Bridge with bay views - sit up front for the best seat.

Local tip: Front-row seats on the Yurikamome are the local kids' favourite.
Get off at Odaiba-Kaihinkoen / Daiba
    2

    Gundam + the malls

    Stay 90 min

See the life-size Unicorn Gundam at DiverCity and browse the connected malls (arcades, shops, food).

Local tip: Check the Gundam transformation/lighting schedule and time your visit to it.
    Walk to the waterfront
    3

Seaside Park & Rainbow Bridge at sunset

    Stay 90 min

Walk the waterfront promenade and the small beach as the sun sets and the bridge lights come on.

Local tip: Be on the front ~20 minutes before sunset for the colour and the lighting.

    Optional: teamLab (Toyosu)

    Stay 90 min

One stop away, the teamLab digital-art museum makes a stunning add-on - but needs advance tickets.

Local tip: Book teamLab online before you go; same-day entry is rarely possible.

    Good to know

    Is Odaiba worth visiting? +

Yes for a relaxed bayside half-day from central Tokyo - the Gundam, malls, a waterfront walk and a great sunset over the Rainbow Bridge. It's especially good with kids or in the rain.

How long do you need in Odaiba? +

About 3-5 hours - an attraction or two plus the waterfront at sunset. Add teamLab (one stop away, book ahead) for a fuller day.
