Kawagoe is an easy, cheap hop — about 30 minutes from Ikebukuro with no transfer. The only wrinkle is that the old town sits between the stations, so it's a 10–15 minute walk (or a short bus) from the main Kawagoe Station to the warehouse street.

    The routes

    • Ikebukuro → Kawagoe on the Tobu Tojo line: ~30 min, ~¥480; the rapid/express is fastest
    • Seibu Shinjuku → Hon-Kawagoe (Seibu line): direct, ~45 min — Hon-Kawagoe is closest to the old town
    • JR Saikyo/Kawagoe line from Shinjuku: handy if you're already on the JR network
    • From Kawagoe Station, walk ~15 min or take the loop bus to the Kurazukuri street

    Local tip

If you want to minimise walking to the old town, Seibu's Hon-Kawagoe station is the closest. From the Tobu/JR Kawagoe Station, the retro loop bus drops you right at the warehouse street and is worth the small fare on a hot or rainy day. Tap an IC card for the trains.
